Mottley declares Straughn will win Ch Ch East Central seat

BARBADOS Labour Party (BLP) candidate, economist Ryan Straughn, will be the next representative for the people of Christ Church East Central.

This declaration is coming from Opposition Leader Mia Mottley, who on Wednesday night indicated that Straughn’s professional experience and vast knowledge of the history of Barbados’ economy, is needed to assist in the process of fixing the island’s troubled economy.

While speaking during the opening of the candidate’s campaign branch, at Lodge Road, Christ Church, Mottley said she approached Straughn to join her team after the last general elections, because she knew he had much to offer to not only the people of Christ Church East Central, but to the country as a whole.

The economist is going up against the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Member of Parliament for the area, Ronald Jones in the next General Election, which is constitutionally due this year but is yet to be called.

“You must know that I am somebody who relies on independent data, and when I tell you that Ryan Straughn is winning Christ Church East Central, far ahead of Ronald Jones, believe you me that Ryan Straughn is winning Christ Church East Central far from Ronald Jones,” Mottley declared.

“And when I tell you that the message has gotten home to the DEMS, it is not going to be very long before you see all of the DEMS coming up in Christ Church East Central to mass canvass.

“They were supposed to come this weekend. . .It doesn’t matter if they come this weekend, but they are coming because they know that Ronald Jones is in trouble. They know that Jones is in trouble for a reason,” she added.

The Opposition Leader said there are persons in that constituency who have had to endure ten years of poor representation. She accused Ronald Jones of sitting quietly by and allowing Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler to deliver a list of failed economic recovery plans.

“Ronald Jones has sat back as a Member of Parliament for Christ Church, knowing fully well that our foreign exchange and our foreign reserves are in a dire situation, and that Barbados cannot now withstand any kind of bad news or any kind of interruption that would cause the reserves to even go down quicker…

“I ask you tonight to recognise that you would not only be voting for a representative, but you will be voting for a man who Barbados needs at this juncture in its history,” she said.
