Mottley: BLP offers only real alternative

Opposition Leader, Mia Mottley, says there is only one real alternative to the Freundel Stuart Administration.

“That is the Barbados Labour Party; let us get it straight,” she told thousands of cheering supporters gathered at Jubilee Gardens in The City, for the “March of Disgust” and “Step Up If Yuh Fed Up” rally, on Saturday evening.

“I don’t need to wait on a CADRES poll or any other poll to tell me that Bajans want change now. I don’t need to wait on the special interest from the media and I don’t need to wait on the big business interest either.”

Mottley, who was extremely happy with the turnout, said it shows that Barbadians have turned the corner. “That you want real change because this Freundel Stuart Administration cannot take us out of where we are.”

She said that the Barbados Labour Party recognises its duty to the people of this country. “We did it in 1951 against a plantocracy that did not see you, the workers, as people; you were invisible to them. We did it in 1976, when there was an oil crisis in this country and when shops were shutting down by the hundreds, not by the tens.

“We did it in 1994, when we had to bring back this country after another Democratic Labour Party government took it from batting like Garry Sobers to sending home 4 500 workers and cutting salaries by eight per cent. So, we know and according to Professor Winston Moore, this economy grows when the Barbados Labour Party is the government.”

Mottley also assured supporters of her Party’s competence, from the stalwarts to the newcomers. She said that they are all candidates with tremendous professional and civic qualities.

“The one thing I have insisted on is that they care about people. This journey is about the people of Barbados. We have determined that this country’s future is greater than all of us and we will work every day and every night to bring back Barbados to where we want it to be,” she further expressed. (TL)
