More participants at LVS PTA’s Expo

Barbadians have been heeding the call to get involved in entrepreneurship and the organiser of one small business expo has reported an upsurge in participants.

President of the Lester Vaughan School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Donna Sealy told The Barbados Advocate this year’s fourth annual Small Business Expo had over 30 exhibitors.

“It has been growing every year – this year is our biggest. Every year I say that, but this year is bigger than I could have possibly thought of. We don’t only have students, we have small business people to whom your support makes a difference as well as some partners who will be working with the school.”

The theme for the event was “Growing Green” which is linked to continual efforts at the school to remain environmentally conscious.

Booths at the Expo were manned by parents of students of the school and current and past students as well as businesses and charities associated with the school. Items on show and on sale in the school’s hall included jewellery, books, clothing and natural soaps.

Giving endorsement of the annual event, Principal of The Lester Vaughan School, Major Michael Boyce said, “I think it is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talent of students, staff, parents, guardians and the extended members of the Lester Vaughan family. I think it is a fantastic opportunity as well to make some connections and to network and to learn from each other and go forward. The fact that it is done at the school provides a good opportunity for us to do that, we are at the business [place] for teaching and learning, I think that is very important.” (MG)
