Kwame Bradshaw, Public Relations/Communications Officer for MENS

MENS hotline to be established

The Men’s Empowerment Network Support is seeking to have a special hotline set up, for men facing challenges to be able to access the requisite support they need.

Kwame Bradshaw, Public Relations/Communications Officer for MENS, noted that the hotline will be manned by males, who will be able to point those who need assistance, in the right direction.

The hotline is just one of the initiatives MENS is proposing to introduce, in its endeavour to be the leading representative body, championing the cause of men in Barbados. It has meanwhile been noted that whilst it is in its infancy, it is a priority for the group, which believes that a lot of men in Barbados will be better able to function and handle the problems they face in relationships, financially, in parenting and the like, if they have an outlet that is confidential and filled with resource persons who can help.

Fabian Sargeant, Founder and President of the Men’s Empowerment Network Support has meanwhile noted that a separate arm will be set up for boys who may have some challenges, as the general MENS sessions will be a space where adult males may need to address issues that affect them in a free and frank manner and such conversations may not be appropriate for the young ones.

The group is also hoping to go into local schools to set up mentoring programmes and other initiatives that can improve the lives of male students, who may be facing anger issues, domestic problems or even issues related to their general development.

Men from all walks of life meanwhile are invited to the MENS Talk bimonthly sessions, to air their concerns and hear generally about the way forward for the charitable organisation.
