Many excited to see GG

The recently appointed Governor General of Barbados, Dame Sandra Mason, toured the grounds of Agrofest 2018, which was held at Queen’s Park over the weekend, and many people, young and old, were excited to see and greet her.

As this was her first time touring Agrofest in the capacity of Governor General, Dame Sandra took the time to engage actively with every stall and booth she visited, such as the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation, The St. George Secondary School and a basket weaving booth. Many persons eagerly anticipated the chance to shake Dame Mason’s hand as she toured the facilities. One person even noted that she was pleased that Dame Mason even noticed her and took the time to shake her hand and ask her how she was doing.

The Governor General was clearly impressed with the material on display, as she was quite inquisitive about the products she came into contact with and asked many questions regarding the different materials.

She was particularly pleased with the work done by, and material displayed by the St. George Secondary School, commenting that she was pleasantly impressed with the work that the students had completed, under the tutelage of their teacher Mr. Smith-Olliverre, to produce the vertical garden and plant pots out of old towels.

After the near two-hour tour, of which the Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agriculture Society, James Paul joined her for most of it, Dame Mason took the time to observe the
judging of the animals and stayed until the end of the judging section.

Thousands of persons were out in their numbers to attend the event, which was in its second day. One young lady commented that this was her third time attending Agrofest, and personally, she was impressed with how far Agrofest had come since inception.

“Really, it has grown so much, and this year there are so many young children running all over the place, it’s a great sight. I always have fun when I come out, and it’s always great to see the products that are offered as well,” she said.
