Make full use of your education

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Harcourt Husbands, is urging students to take full advantage of all the educational opportunities that currently exist locally.

He stated that this is one of the best ways that they could pay tribute to this island’s first Prime Minister and National Hero, the Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow.

Husbands’ comments came while addressing the official launch of the commemorative poster on the 30th anniversary of the passing of the Father of Independence. This was done at The Lodge School yesterday.

He also encouraged students to read the poster and understand all they could about the late leader and the role he played in Barbados’ history. He additionally stated that the Education Ministry was pleased to be associated with the initiative, while pointing out that the poster will be distributed to educational institutions across the island. St. John was the first stop to be made.

Husbands also encouraged other political parties to promote the contributions that their leaders made to this island.

He indicated that this would help the younger generation to have a greater understanding of how and on whose shoulders this country was built.

“We take the opportunity to encourage not only the Democratic Labour Party, but all the other political parties to use opportunities like this to promote their leaders and the work that they have done in the interest of Barbados.

“It serves Barbados well when the young people get to understand first-hand, not necessarily from textbooks, lectures and lessons in history… how this country was built not only by the Democratic Labour Party, but by the blood, sweat and tears of a multiplicity of other Barbadians.”

During the proceedings, commemorative posters were presented to pupils of St. John Primary School, St. Margaret’s Primary School, Mount Tabor Primary School and The Lodge School by Husbands and General Secretary of the Democratic Labour Party, George Pilgrim.

Pilgrim told those present that the commemorative poster highlights thirty (30) accomplishments of the Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow.

He also said it would be made available at no cost to persons. (MG)
