Leacock sizzles during Pick de Dish demo

THEO Leacock emerged victorious after a heated battle sizzled in the north of the island yesterday.

The cooking demonstration which lasted two hours, at Lord’s Cricket Ground in St. Lucy took centre stage during the launch of the Pick de Dish, the National Food & Rum Competition, which is a part of the We Gatherin’ 2020 celebrations. Saturday’s demo gave prospective community chefs the opportunity to experience competition conditions and hear feedback from the judges.

Pick de Dish is intended to create a friendly cooking rivalry across Barbados and will be carried out on a parish by parish basis during the month in which each parish activity for the We Gatherin’ celebrations is taking place. A National Competition will be held as part of the Barbados Food and Rum Festival 2020. The official St. Lucy Pick de Dish competition will take place on January 31.

Though not professionals, the three community chefs, Leacock, Renelle Spencer-Hazzard and Joshua Sobers-Henry pulled out all the stops under the watchful eye of manager of the Barbados Culinary Team Chef Henderson Butcher and members of the audience, many of whom followed their progress from beginning to end.
