Lashley: Vote for Rodney Grant

FORMER Member of Parliament (MP) for St. Michael South East, Hamilton Lashley, is appealing to residents of that constituency to vote for Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate, Rodney Grant, who is hoping to win that seat in the next General Elections.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the Parkinson Memorial School to officially introduce Grant as the DLP candidate, Lashley argued that the community practitioner deserves to be an MP, having sacrificed many years of his life, fighting for social justice for the people of that constituency.

“I am saying that because consciously I believe that community practitioners should have a seat in the hollowed space of Parliament...

“I have to endorse Rodney because he is a very thoughtful individual and he would have made sacrifices over and over again, even being not the political representative of this constituency.

“His journey was a lonely one, sometimes a desperate one, but his journey was one where he was representing the people for a very long period,” Lashley said.

He recalled that Grant’s journey to Parliament began almost 40 years ago, when they sat together as young boys and had a conversation about St. Michael South East, someday having someone from the area representing the constituency in Parliament.

Lashley, who was the first person to turn that dream into reality, said when his time expired in Parliament, he felt it was important to hand over the mantle of leadership of the constituency, which he said was stigmatised by many, to an individual who understands the plight of the people.

“We have been canvassing hard together. We work morning, noon, night, during the day, to make sure that St. Michael South East will change to the Democratic Labour Party whenever the next General Election is called and Rodney Grant will be our next representative,” Lashley declared. (AH)
