Kite flying tradition being kept alive with Competition and Fun Day

The annual Democratic Labour Party (DLP) St Michael North West Kite Flying Competition and Fun Day was in full swing on Monday.

Kites of various shapes and sizes filled the sky over the Carlton Club in Black Rock as residents, both the young and young at heart, embraced the event hosted by Candidate for the Area and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler.

Aimed at keeping the favourite Easter pastime alive, he shared with The Barbados Advocate “We try to get children to have a continued interest in kite flying. Some came with their own kites, but we also had a kite maker on site demonstrating to them the art of kite making. We made sure all the children attending had the opportunity to take part, so we donated kites to those children who didn’t have one.”

In addition to kite flying, patrons could be seen engaging in lively conversation; while others enjoyed the eats and other activities on offer.
