Kadooment Day times two

One local entity has answered the appeal by some Barbadians for there to be two days of Grand Kadooment.

Managing Director of DM Celebrations Lifestyle & Entertainment Inc., Ryan Moseley during a press conference on Friday revealed that his company will be staging Day Two, a street parade, on Tuesday, August 2nd – the day after Grand Kadooment Day. This inaugural Emancipation Day jump will occur along the Ermy Bourne Highway.

“We at DM are not waiting on the government to just give us a second day. We are going out there and we are taking that second day… Our love for Crop Over and Kadooment is strong and what better way to express that than by extending it and what better day to take that first step than by doing it on Emancipation Day, a day when we remember and honour those rebels who heroically fought for a better future.”

Further speaking to The Barbados Advocate on the sidelines of the press conference at the Banks Visitor Centre, Moseley said the Day Two experience will run from 8am until 4pm and there will be one band with revellers in both costumes and T-shirts. He added there will be live performances as well as disc jockeys playing music as masqueraders party along the East Coast road.

Moseley additionally stated that registration at present is at 85 percent with the majority of the individuals slated to take part in the event drawn from the United States of America, Guadeloupe and Martinique. He further expressed a hope that more Barbadians would get on board.

“The local response is hesitant, Barbadians tend to be a bit last minute with their plans but we do hope that they will catch on. [We] hope that the band wouldn’t be 85 percent foreigners when we go on the road. We hope that Barbadians, once the word gets out there a bit more, they will sign on to the concept.”(MG)
