Jones: Don’t scare residents

MP for Christ Church East Central Ronald Jones is not pleased with a letter his political opponent recently sent to the residents of Wotton Housing Area.

The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) Candidate, who Jones did not refer to by name, wrote to residents in light of the electrical fire last Boxing Day in Haynesville, St James, which destroyed one housing unit and damaged two others.

Since the fire, BLP Candidate for St James South Sandra Husbands has been calling on the Freundel Stuart Administration to make rewiring of the aged state housing a priority.

“That individual wrote to every occupier of the 120 units in Wotton, telling them about the fire and to be careful because they might also have some fires up here because their electrical situation might be just as bad, if not worse than those in Haynesville,” Jones told the Lower House.

The MP said he believes there has only been one house fire in Wotton, within the last 20 years.

“But you are going to write to people to create that fear within them…If you are trying to do something good, then do something good, but that comes down to the point of persecution of the residents of Wotton,” he stressed.

“I don’t understand what is going on. Did somebody put the smell of power within the nostrils of that individual for such foolishness to be written?... This foolishness must stop! To win a vote you go to these desperate circumstances?” Jones lamented.
