House meeting today

 

Government is seeking to give the public wider access to notarial services.
 
On the Order Paper of the House of Assembly for the sitting today, is Bill to authorise some 11 public officers to be notaries public. These public officers include the Solicitor-General and Deputy Solicitor-General, the Supervisor of Insolvency as well as the Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries responsible for Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, International Business and the Office of the Attorney General.
 
That Bill is but one of 18 items listed on the Order Paper for debate. Among the others bills, are the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (Membership of Barbados) Bill, the Penal System Reform (Amendment) Bill, the Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill and the Offences Against the Person (Amendment) Bill. Also on up for debate are several resolutions, including a land resolution to lease a parcel of land off Trevor’s Way, Princess Alice Highway to the Barbados Port Inc. for the construction of a cruise pier and ancillary facilities.
 
Additionally, the Lower House is being asked to approve a resolution to grant the sum of $50 million from the Consolidated Fund to place it at the disposal of the Government to supplement the Estimates 2016-2017. The Resolution has identified $50 million under Head 27, money which is needed to assist the Barbados Port Inc., in the payment of costs relating to the Berth 5 Project. That includes, the resolution indicates the repayment of $12 million to the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc.   
 
Meanwhile, Items 14 and 15, speak to resolutions to approve the Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries (Remuneration and Allowances) Order, 2016 and the Senate and the House of Assembly (Remuneration and Allowances of Members) Order, 2016. (JRT)
