Chairman of the Board of Management of the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School, Dr. Wayne Welch presenting the keys of the school to the new Principal, Ian Holder on Monday.

Holder, new Principal at Parkinson Memorial

There is a new Principal at the helm of the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School. He is Ian Holder.

Holder, who has been in the teaching service for the past 34 years, begun his first official day at the school on Monday. He takes over from former Principal, Jeff Broomes whose retirement commenced on May 1st.

While addressing the student body during full assembly, the former Deputy Principal of the Grantley Adams Memorial School reminded them “that it is very important to be disciplined in life. In all things that you do discipline allows you to reach a higher level or higher standard.”

He further said, “Sometimes you can be steered away from excellence by your friends but you need to be strong and you need to recognise when you are travelling a path that is not positive and be strong enough to turn away even if the others do not follow your direction.”

Holder also shared with students that “one of the visions I have for the school is one where excellence is the word used for all activities that they are involved in. They should seek excellence.”

Present during the morning’s assembly was an official from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation as well as a representative of the school’s Board of Management.

Prior to presenting Holder with the keys to the educational institution, Chairman of the Board, Dr. Wayne Welch stated he looked forward to working with the new principal. He also told students of the aim of the school to fully equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue their future endeavours.

“We are trying to get better students so that when you leave here you can hold your own on the outside because you can command a job. Whatever job you command, you will be good at it,” he stated. (MG)
