Hinkson: Barbados must try to curb gun violence

Minister of Home Affairs, Edmund Hinkson, is urging people of Barbados to help curb gun violence.

His comments were made on Wednesday at St. Alban’s Primary School, just one day before the media reported the island’s latest victim of gun violence at the same school in St. James on Thursday.

Hinkson added that one of the major challenges on the island is that people who know what is going on or have illegal guns and creating problems are not giving the information to stop the violence.

He made reference to his comments in Parliament during this week where he said that those who know about corrupt practices and corruption should come forward and give information.

He said that many people believe that if they give information on gun violence that their families will be in danger.

Hinkson also noted the increased security measures at the Barbados Port, but he stressed that all Barbadians must come together to stop gun violence.

Prior to the tragic scene at St. Alban’s Primary School on Thursday, the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) responded to an incident on Tuesday in New Orleans, the City when residents were forced to take cover after shots were fired from a passing vehicle. No one was injured in the afternoon shooting incident.
