Health mall on the cards for Bridgetown

Barbados will see its first health mall in the heart of Bridgetown within the next few months.

This was revealed by Earlwaine Cumberbatch, co-coordinator of a health fair, which was held at Satjay Mall yesterday morning.

Cumberbatch, who spoke with media during the health fair, noted that the upcoming health mall was one of the activities Optimal Health had lined up. He expressed that they were looking to host a number of persons such as doctors, pharmacists, people selling nutritional products, massage therapists, and the like, as they are aiming for the mall to be a one-stop hub for all things healthy.

“This is the first health mall in Barbados, so there’s every aspect of health that you can think of. We even want to have blood pressure checks readily available and sell healthy supplements as well,” he said.

“We believe that persons congregate in Bridgetown and persons from all areas of life and status come into Bridgetown and therefore, if we can have a health mall in Bridgetown, it will allow persons that come into the City the opportunity to be near the mall and pass through and be able to get a check-up.”

Given the fact that sometimes persons feel sick or faint in town, he noted that hopefully, the doctors that will be readily accessible in the heart of Bridgetown will be able to go out and assist the sick in whatever way they could.

Cumberbatch also revealed that they plan to have a fitness gym in the mall where persons would be able to come in and work on their cardio, aerobics or whatever they would need to work on.

Additionally, he noted that they intend to have lectures periodically by doctors, pharmacists and other health officials so persons can gather more information to utilise for acquiring optimal health.

According to Cumberbatch, they currently have three of four businesses on-board, such as a massage therapist, persons selling supplements and the gym, and added that they also have other people who are interested in being a part of the mall.

It is his hope that the mall will open in either March or April of this year.
