GG presents Insignia to recipients of 2018 National Honours and Awards

Governor General of Barbados, Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason, presented Insignia to some of the recipients of the 2018 National Honours and Awards yesterday morning, during a brief ceremony held at Government House.

Chief Justice of Barbados, Sir Marston Gibson; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, along with relatives of the first batch of recipients, witnessed the brief ceremony.

Standing tall at 101 years of age, Dame Avisene Caesaretta Carrington was the first to stand before Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason to receive the insignia for the prestigious national honour of Dame of St. Andrew. Carrington has been recognised for her pioneering role in Early Childhood Education, as well as her outstanding contribution to Primary Education in Barbados.

Sir Philip Evan Serrao followed, receiving the insignia for the distinguished national honour of Knight of St. Andrew. Serrao has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to modernising the Barbados Electoral System and its administrative processes.

DeLisle Othneil Bradshaw received insignia for the Companion of Honour of Barbados. The Companion of Honour is awarded for distinguished national achievement and merit and Bradshaw received his award for his outstanding contribution to Political Affairs and Education.

Receiving insignia for the award of Gold Crown of Merit, which is given to those who display highly meritorious service or achievement in science, the arts, literature, sports, civic duties or any other endeavour worthy of national recognition, were three individuals. Mitchinson Henderson Beckles received his first, for his contribution to the development of Civil Aviation in Barbados. He was followed by Haresh Nathurmal Thani, who has been recognised for his contribution to Emergency Medicine. Last, but not least in this category was Robert Charles David Tibbits, who has been rewarded for his contribution to the Accounting and Financial Sectors.

Accepting the insignia for the award of Silver Crown of Merit, which is given for meritorious service or achievement in science, the arts, literature, sports, civic duties or any other endeavour worthy of national recognition, were four individuals. The first recipient to receive insignia for this award was Ardyce Kathelina Bolden, who has been recognised for her contribution to indigenous enterprise in Training and Cosmetology. She was followed by William Lindsay Alexander Hinds, who has been rewarded for his contribution to Innovation in the area of Alternate Energy. Kerryann Fenelle Ifill was up next. She has been recognised for her advocacy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and for her contribution to Civil Society. As the ceremony came to a close, Robert Malcolm Peirce also received insignia.

He has been rewarded for his Humanitarian work, especially with under-privileged Youth and for his contribution to the Horseracing Industry.
