First winter flight from Frankfurt lands in Barbados

THE strong rebound of Barbados’ tourism continues to manifest itself as the first winter flight from Frankfurt this year landed in Barbados on Monday night. Touching down at 6:14 p.m., the Eurowings Discover Flight LH 436 brought with it 105 passengers, including press members from Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.
Also onboard for the inaugural flight was Barbados Tourism Management Inc.’s Senior Business Development Officer from the Europe Office, Debbie Moe, and she revealed that the carrier would be flying three times a week until April 23rd next year.
“The flight is leaving the Frankfurt Airport at just about 1:30 in the afternoon, which allows us to connect many European cities via Frankfurt into Barbados. So yes, it will certainly allow Germans to come to Barbados, but it will allow persons from major airport hubs in Europe to come to the island as well. We saw it on the flight today – we had persons from Italy, also from the Netherlands and many more coming into Barbados on the first flight,” she said.
Moe went on to state that because of the fall- out from the pandemic, Barbados kept its efforts up in what has been our strongest market in conti- nental Europe and that they most recently were employing one-on-one con-
sumer advertising in sev- eral cities such as Berlin, Munich and Cologne.
“We continue to market quite strong because we know we still need to have a presence in the market. The truth is that the German market has changed a bit and persons who were booking previ- ously six months in ad- vance, they are now book- ing quite shorter. So six weeks, maybe even four weeks or two weeks before they fly. This is quite a good advantage for us be- cause persons are still looking to travel,” she said.
