Don’t dillydally, report sewer overflow issues

Do not to hesitate, contact the Waste Water Division of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) if you see a sewer
overflow or you have an issue.
Industrial Waste Inspector for the Waste Water Division for the BWA, Nicole Austin issued this advice to south coast residents and business owners.

Her recommendation comes on the heels of the launch of the BWA’s Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) control programme. It is an initiative aimed at educating Barbadians about items that should not make their way into the sewer line. The
public education programme started this week with BWA personnel distributing letters to residents and business owners along the south coast. This coast is where the sewage treatment plant is situated.

“We are going to start with certain target areas and we going to branch out.”

She added, “We want to let anyone know as well that anytime that they see a sewer overflow, please immediately call us so that we can come and tackle the area, do the maintenance clean-up because we would be working at the plant [and]
we are dealing with the plant. If you see something happen within your environs because this is where you live or this is where work, please immediately call us so that we could come and figure out what is going on at sewer line right away because we would have our target areas based off of what happened in December but…we want to know if there are any other areas that we should also be focusing on.”(MG)
