DLP NAMES THREE MORE CANDIDATES

Democratic Labour Party (DLP) President, Verla De Peiza, has revealed another three candidates who will be representing that party in the next general election.

They are Marc Laurent, Kemar Stuart and Rasheed Belgrave. They will be contesting the Christ Church South, The City and Christ Church East Central seats respectively.

De Peiza announced the new candidates while giving her address yesterday during the DLP’s 66th Annual Conference. At this event, she also highlighted the candidates that are already known.

She told those present that the DLP’s process of selecting candidates “started in 2019”. However, it “really, really got some legs and gallop along this past year”. She stated the DLP has taken the decision to announce the names of their candidates in batches. She said this is part of the party’s strategy.

“I know the political pundits want to see a master list, but they are going to have to keep writing, keep the paper fresh and keep adding to it because we need to showcase our candidates and we are confident in the strategy that we have to ensure that our candidates get the spotlight that they deserve.”

She added, “We continue to choose candidates and we continue to announce them according to our strategy, not what others tell us.”

Turning her attention to speak about the team the DLP has selected, De Peiza said it is a young group, but they are up to the task.

“We are a young team, but we are a strong and committed team and nothing matters more to us than to see the Democratic Labour Party once again stamping its mark on the political landscape of Barbados. And because we are young, we are full of energy and open to change.”

She also shared that “in this coming year, knowing that we are on the cusp of a general election, the Democratic Labour Party will be sharing its vision and its philosophy with the people of Barbados”. (MG)
