DLP members retrace steps of Errol Barrow during Legacy Tour

Democratic Labour Party members and supporters had the opportunity to retrace the steps of nation builder and National Hero, The Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow, as the Party held its Errol Barrow Legacy Tour, starting from DLP Headquarters recently.

Organised by former DLP senator Andre Worrell, patrons had their choice of boarding either the Gospel Train or the Bashment Bus after being served light refreshments, as celebrations got under way in recognition of Errol Barrow Day.

President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Verla DePeiza told The Barbados Advocate that the Errol Barrow Legacy Tour would trace the footprints of Barrow, as various popular sites of his would be visited and the event, she indicated, whilst serving up a good measure of fun, would also be educational in nature, for the benefit of those taking the tour.

“We have two types of transportation, because we know that we would have our older members here and they would want the Gospel Train, but there is also the bus for the younger ones of us who would want a different type of music. So we are trying to accommodate as many different types of members that we have and as you can see from the crowd, we do have a mixture here today,” DePeiza told this newspaper.

“The event, though intended to be fun, is also educational. We are retracing the steps of Errol Barrow and going to all of his usual (spots), experiencing the life as he had it. We are going to the (Barbados) Light Aeroplane Club, we are finding a vantage point to observe the Round the Island Regatta, at our lunch stop we will be sampling dishes from his cookbook and we are heading into St. Lucy to visit sites of interest in his life. We are making this day a day about learning, whilst having fun,” the DLP President revealed.

Party members and supporters meanwhile turned out in their colours of yellow and blue, ready to partake in the day’s festivities, in celebration of Errol Barrow’s birthday. Before boarding of the buses was complete, some patrons could be seen swaying to the music on the bus they had chosen, whether the Gospel Train or the Bashment Bus. Patrons were eager to get started on the day’s planned activities.
