DLP can duplicate Grenada results, says Todd

A historic clean sweep of all 30 seats in the next general election.

Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate for St Michael North East, Patrick Todd, strongly believes this is doable by the Freundel Stuart Administration, as he pointed to the recent victory in Grenada by the Keith Mitchell-led New National Party (NNP) winning all 15 seats in 1999, 2013, and again in the March 13 2018 general election.

Todd, who was addressing the official opening of the St Peter Constituency Office at Mile-and-a-Quarter, throwing his support behind the candidate Dave Cumberbatch, stressed that all constituencies are winnable by the Democratic Labour Party.

“Sometimes people go into elections assuming that we can’t win all. But, look what happened in Grenada on more than one occasion – they won all the seats. So we in the Democratic Labour Party are going after every constituency in Barbados – that includes St Peter and of course St Michael North East,” he observed.

“This is a realistic goal because Haynesley Benn would have worked assiduously over consecutive elections to regain ground for the Democratic Labour Party, as well as Patricia Inniss in St Michael North East. In fact, Patricia Inniss was able gain over 600 additional votes for the Democratic Labour Party. The Democratic Labour Party support in St Michael North East is trending upwards.”

While not being complacent, the former City of Bridgetown MP is still confident that he can remove Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) leader Mia Mottley from the St Michael North East seat which she held for over two decades.

“In the few weeks that I have been able to be in the field in St Michael North East, as I knock on doors, residents are so happy to see me and have said they have never seen their own MP knocking on their doors.

“If that person was in office for one term you would give them a little break, but that person has been running in St Michael North East since 1991 and you want to tell me we have a significant number of residents who have never seen that person appear to their homes. So, I ask you the people of St Michael North East to reflect on that lack of representation,” he said.
