Digicel promoting a reading culture

DIGICEL is promoting childhood literacy with interactive story time sessions at the Barbados National Library Service.

Yesterday, a team from the telecommunications company shared their love for books during its “Reading with the Kids Programme”, alongside UWI STAT Cave Hill.

In addition to the regular participants of the library’s ‘Story Hour’ held every Saturday morning, Digicel extended a special invitation to the children associated with New Covenant Inheritors Ministries.

“We wanted to add this initiative to our calendar of activities in an effort to help highlight the need for children to build their reading skills and to maintain their involvement with the library, because it is something that would keep them in good stead for life,” expressed Digicel’s Marketing Manager, Sonia Hall-Hunte.

“It was an interactive session. The children were extremely excited, and I was quite impressed with the level of involvement.”

The reading programme is also part of Digicel’s anniversary celebrations. Marking 14 years in Barbados on February 11, Digicel’s “14 years of Love” thanked customers throughout the month.

“Marking our 14th anniversary of operations in Barbados we would have done several initiatives, which included giving out free gas at Shell station; paid utility bills; and purchased groceries for some of our customers. The idea is to make sure that our customers understand that we value their support over the 14 years.” (TL)
