Ronald Davis, Cultural Officer at the NCF.

Corporate Barbados playing its part

Corporate Barbados playing its part and should be commended for helping the youth of Barbados to develop.

This comment was made by Ronald Davis, Cultural Officer at the National Cultural Foundation, during an interview with The Barbados Advocate, on the sidelines of their NIFCA Music launch, which took place at The Colonnade Mall yesterday evening.

Davis extended a special thank you to Digicel, who is the title sponsor of the NIFCA Music Project. The Cultural Officer believes that Digicel’s commitment to sponsoring the events certainly speaks to the fact that they are helping to ensure that the Arts continue to develop in Barbados.

“We thank Digicel, of course, for funding the whole project; and definitely we must say that corporate Barbados is really playing its part in ensuring that from the arts perspective, our cultural landscape is being enhanced year after year,” he said.

“I think that is a great thing for the corporate Barbados to come onboard so that the youngsters can do positive things with their lives.”

Yesterday they launched the NIFCA Music component in the Digicel store at The Colonnade Mall. They brought Kalead, winner of the 2015 Digicel NIFCA Extraordinary Award Winner in the category of music and Ki’Ann Browne, the Gospel singer with the powerful voice, to serenade the customers in the store.

Davis revealed that the NIFCA Music Finals will be held at the Frank Collymore Hall, Sunday November 4 and Monday November 5 at 7 pm.

He was proud to note that this year they had 51 entrants, who submitted over 87 songs; and from those 87 songs, on finals night, the audience will get the opportunity to hear 37 of those songs.

Of those songs, he noted that they had 23 original songs submitted from the entrants, which he believed spoke to the fact that there was a lot of creativity coming out.

This year, Davis highlighted that they did not only involve the professionals and semi-professionals, but they also have the primary school students, who will be performing on Monday, as well. Along with the professionals, the secondary school students will perform on Sunday.
