The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Candidate for St. James Central, George Connolly, is ready to battle with long-time friend Kerrie Symmonds to win the seat for his Party.

Connolly fears nobody

THE new Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Candidate for St. James Central, George Connolly, does not feel threatened by the sitting Barbados Labour Party Member of Parliament for that area, Kerrie Symmonds, with whom he has had an amicable relationship for a long time.

Connolly told the media during a recent interview that the decision to elect him to represent their best interest is left up to the electorate.

“I really don’t fear Kerrie Symmonds, or any other person. What I fear is the integrity that I have with the people who make the decision as to who is able to represent them for the constituency,” he declared.

The new Candidate also pointed out that he has a very long history with Symmonds, noting that they attended the Barbados Community College (BCC) together, around the same time that Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler and Political Scientist Peter Wickham, were there.

“We have a very long history, and it has been amicable all the time. I don’t think this is going to change that dynamic at all,” he said.

As it relates to his plans for St. James Central, Connolly who said he has been quietly working in the constituency where he also resides in recent years, said one of his first focuses is getting the community organised.

“My family and I have done a tremendous amount of work in the community for years. We don’t do it with press, and we don’t do it for fanfare. We do it because we genuinely think that we have been fortunate, and we give something back. The goal is really how to get our friends, and neighbours of the community, to do more of it,” he said.

The Candidate has a long-standing background in private sector business. He is currently the owner of a business development company called Effective Marketing Solutions. He oversees the management of several properties locally, and acts as a consultant for firms across the region.Symmonds has represented St. James Central in Parliament since 2003. (AH)
