Commandant encourages officers to behave proactively

Commandant of the Regional Police Training Centre, Sylvester Louis is calling for a proactive approach by officers of the Force in light of a possible mass deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States of America.

His comments came after reminding officers of the importance of sharpening their skills in relation to the use of their personal duty firearms.

“I just want to remind you that your firearm has to become part of you – an extension of your body –because you need to practice. You need to practice daily, dry practising in order to neutralise any threat.”

He added, “We in the Caribbean are about to be hit with a tsunami, if President-elect Donald Trump makes good on his promises in respect of the deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States of America.

“This is not a political speech, this is a fact. We have to prepare for all of the types who are bred over there because we really don’t know what types of nefarious skills they may be bringing to our shores. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we have to be proactive, we have to practice, practice.”

Louis delivered remarks at Wednesday’s joint graduation and closing ceremony for the VIP Close Protection & Tactical Firearms Training Course. This was held at the Regional Police Training Centre.

Speaking about the courses, he said, “this type of training is absolutely necessary to bring our forces up to the international level needed to properly protect our people and those people who visit our shores.”

He further shared that reports from the instructors indicated that the participants did extremely well and stated that “such a course in the UK cost about $3000 pounds per person.”

Giving advice, he told the graduates they needed to be vigilant and continually upgrade their skills.

He further said they could not afford to be soft or let their guards down.

He added they needed to be in shape and sharp at all times; in addition to sharing the information they received with their colleagues, given that the course was heavily requested.

The Commandant also urged graduates to google and read “the House Oversight Committee recommendations. It is a 438 page document entitled, the United States Secret Service, An Agency”, in addition to the “Warren Commission’s recommendations”.
