CIBC FirstCaribbean adds colour to St. Lucy Primary School’s Classrooms

Some students of St. Lucy Primary School returned to school recently to a jaw-dropping surprise.

They walked into brightly painted classrooms which were a gladly received transformation from what they had left the previous Friday. Usually repainting is done during the holiday so it was unlikely that the students of Class 2 Dowding, Class 3 Dowding and Class 2 Jordan would have expected to be greeted with walls painted in teal, yellow or gold. However the staff of the Speightstown branch of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank had spent part of their weekend scraping the classrooms and painting them in bright colours.

The school’s principal, Charles Hinds thanked the bank for what he described as its financial help and labour of love towards the school’s children, adding that the bank’s assistance was greatly appreciated since the three classrooms were really in need of that kind of work.

“It was a joy to witness the interest and commitment of the bank’s staff, teachers, parents and students in executing this project. The bank’s employees were the first to arrive and only left when the work was completed for the day,” Hinds said, “From what I have observed the students are more receptive in their brightened classrooms. The colours chosen have improved the appearance and have definitely enhanced the teaching/learning environment in this section of the school,” he added. He noted that he would be willing to partner with the bank on other projects.

Branch manager, Therese Clarke explained that the branch had been taking a special interest in the school prior to this recent involvement. Clarke said after conversations with the principal, the branch decided that repainting was a good cause to adopt. In addition, she said the branch had gone a step further by providing funds so that the school could purchase whiteboards and stationery.

The entire project was conducted under CIBC FirstCaribbean’s “Adopt-a-Cause” umbrella which sees the bank’s staff take on community projects in their immediate surroundings by donating financial resources and volunteering their time as well.
