Along Cheapside in the City, one store started to stock up on Christmas decorations and children’s toys since the beginning of October.

Christmas season starting early for some in Bridgetown

If you did not check your calendar, you might think it was December. With advertising and the playing of Christmas songs in store and on radio, some local businesses have started the season eclipsing the pending Independence
celebrations next month.

The Barbados Advocate visited The City recently to see how some merchants were preparing for the holiday. Casually driving or walking through Bridgetown, one might think it is “business as usual”. However, a few businesses are being proactive by displaying their Christmas stock two months ahead of time.

For many Barbadians, October marks the change from summer heat and hot days to cool, cold evenings and nights. Some of the island’s radio stations and supermarkets/retail stores are attempting to get locals in the Christmas spirit much earlier than expected. In the City, along Cheapside one store since early October is already displaying its mini Christmas trees with lights, decorations and children’s toys.

In Swan street and Tudor Street, most stores have not started advertising for the season as they seek to start mid-November. Yet there were one or two who had their Christmas bags and ornaments in view for December shoppers.
