Christ Church residents report no major damages

Grateful to be spared the worst.

This in a nutshell was the main response given by most residents of Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church who spoke to The Barbados Advocate yesterday afternoon following the passage of Hurricane Elsa.

A trip around this neighborhood found residents in their small groups on the outside carrying out repairs to fallen pailings and fixing other minor damages to homes caused by the high winds experienced. There were also individuals on the outside trimming tree branches.

Speaking to the press, some described the passage of the Category One hurricane as scary.  One lady who gave her name as Michelle did such. She said, “Only my pailing blew down, otherwise it was fine. The wind had me scared. I could see the wind and the rain swirling, swirling off of the roof, that had me scared. We don’t need another one of those episodes.”

Vilma similarly spoke about the gushing hurricane force winds. She said, “The experience wasn’t bad. I would say yes, I experienced the strong wind, especially when I looked outside and saw the pailing below shaking. That is when I said, ‘Well, well, we really have a lot of wind’, but other than that, the experience wasn’t bad. I didn’t have any damage here at me.”

A resident who was on his way to assist his neighbors with fixing damages to their home said in whatever way he can he’ll try to help. He said his own home was fine and things “didn’t go bad for me. It didn’t really do me no damage to tell the truth.”

After one in the afternoon yesterday, the Barbados Meteorological Services issued a discontinuation of the Tropical Storm Warning for Barbados. Meanwhile, after four in the afternoon, the all-clear was given by Government. (MG)
