Cancer Support Services seeks new home

The Cancer Support Services (CSS) is seeking to acquire a new home.

President, Henderson Griffith explained that the charity’s current Arborside, Belmont Road, St. Michael location does not meet its “total need”. Also, it “is an old building and in some instances, it is probably a sick building and we need to start looking around.”

He pointed out that CSS has identified a new building which fits the organisation’s needs. He stated the building has a price tag of “$1.4 million”.

“We were fortunate enough to find a building off Perry Gap, there off Roebuck Street, it really fits our needs. It is a building that has eight completely equipped bedrooms, handicap equipped with air condition and some of them have beds that are already in them, bathroom and everything. It sits on a large amount of land… so we have room to grow. We have an office space; we have space that we can conduct our PSA testing in a very adequate location and comfortable location for the patients and clients. We have space that we can hold events outside on the lawns to help us raise funds.”

Griffith said one of CSS’ main priorities “is come up with enough funds to give a down payment on the building and after that he [the owner] will help us in terms of remainder of the funds.” The “down payment is approximately $500 000” to secure it.

The CSS President is optimistic that the charity can “raise enough funds at least to get the down payment.” He said they “are looking at putting together some literature to send out to both public and private concerns here in Barbados. Make them aware of what we do… and to let them know the value that that will have after.”
