Canadian Prime Minister cancels trip to Barbados

THE much-anticipated visit by Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau to Barbados today has been cancelled.

News broke of the cancellation yesterday reportedly amid criticism over his government’s handling of a series of anti-pipeline protests that have disrupted rail service in parts of Canada.
Prime MInister Trudeau was expected to be the Special guest at the 31st Intersessional Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) which will take place from tomorrow Tuesday February 18 to Wednesday February 19 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

It would have been his first visit to Barbados as Prime Minister.

Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne will represent Canada in Trudeau’s place, clearing the way for the prime minister to handle the protests.
