BLP ready to take country forward

Economist, Ryan Straughn says that the country has lost faith, hope and trust.

Straughn, the Barbados Labour Party’s candidate for Christ Church East Central told those attending a mass meeting held by the political party at Top Rock, Christ Church Sunday night, that the time has come for each and every Barbadian to “dig deep”, and help the country to excel again. His comments came as he said that Barbados is the only country within the Caribbean region that was not experiencing economic growth.

“I want to make a fundamental point here to you tonight, Barbados has developed under the Barbados Labour Party and we have rescued Barbados time and time and time again… I believe Barbados is worth fighting for and the Barbados Labour Party will do all in its power, with the team that Ms. Mottley has assembled to rescue Barbados once again. And I say to all Barbadians, it is not just about us winning the next government, each and every one of you, we will hold your hand as we get out of this hole,” he said.

Straughn, maintaining that the purpose of politics is to make sure that the lives of the people are improved through the policies that are pursued, further contended that this has not been the case with the current government. He made the point as he hinted at the burden put on Barbadians as a result of increased taxation in recent years. As such, he promised that a Barbados Labour Party Government would never introduce the kind of taxation that has been unleashed on the public over the last nine years.

“Our focus is to make sure that you and your families can earn a decent living [and] improve your lot in life, because that is consistent with our motto ‘a better life for our people’. And if every day we go to work whether it is at the House of Assembly or any ministries across Barbados, we must lead, we will lead,” he said.

The economist contended that the Barbados Labour Party is willing and ready to help Barbados, as it was called on to do in 1976 and again in 1994. With that in mind, he told those gathered that with their help and the team the Party has assembled, the BLP will not only turn the economy around, but ensure that Barbados will once again be seen as the gem of the Caribbean.
