BHL donates new benches to Parkinson Memorial

Ten new benches found a new home at the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School yesterday morning.

During the morning assembly, Principal Ian Holder announced that the Banks Holding Limited (BHL) Group of Companies chose to donate the benches to the school. On behalf of the company, Manager of Corporate Affairs, Sophia Cambridge, announced that the donation was a part of their growing HELP ( Heritage, Environment, Learning and People) Programme and she was immensely pleased to be making the donation that morning.

She stated that in 2014 the Group established the HELP Programme and that it is under the four categories that they have chosen to contribute to several sectors across Barbados. “Our gift this morning falls under the Learning tenet of the Programme and we have taken to adopting schools which are in the environs of our subsidiaries,” she explained.

She revealed that the donation also allowed for them to be able to continue their school improvement grant programme as well as assist in beautifying the schools in the surrounding areas. Like other entities in Barbados, Cambridge divulged that funds are limited but this will not stop them from doing what they can to ensure that the communities across the island receive some “well deserved assistance”. Cambridge added that through working with the Principal it was revealed that this particular donation was a necessity of the school and they were happy to help fulfil this necessity.

Along with the donation of the benches, the Manager of Corporate Affairs revealed that they were also donating a plaque which she hopes will serve as a reminder to utilise the space and to make great memories and form lasting friendships.

Acknowledging that education is bigger than a classroom, Cambridge said that she hoped the benches would be used, not simply as a place of leisure but also a place for deep reflection. She encouraged students present to have healthy discussions among each other. “We implore you to look after these benches well,” she concluded.
