BCCUL gives generously to Isolation Facility

Barbados’ main isolation facility at Harrison Point, St. Lucy received a generous monetary donation from the Barbados Co-operative and Credit Union League (BCCUL) Ltd., yesterday.

President of BCCUL, Hally Haynes, alongside Anthony Pilgrim, General Manager; and Noel Nurse, Treasurer presented a cheque in the amount of $12,500 to Operations Manager at the Facility, Ingrid Caddle-Rowe.

Speaking to the media, Pilgrim revealed that the donation from BCCUL, a service organisation for credit unions and other co-operatives in Barbados, is part of activities to mark International Credit Union Day 2021 also commemorated yesterday.

“Today is a day when credit unions around the globe reflect on the significance of the credit union sector – the contribution we have made to improving the lives and livelihoods of persons around the globe. Locally, we thought it very fitting given the current circumstances to make a contribution to the Harrison Point Facility.

“When we reflected we recognised that given that the pandemic is raging, we really wanted to make a significant contribution at this time as it relates to the health of Barbadians, and this facility is of critical importance to the nation at this time… So we are very pleased on behalf of the 200,000-plus credit union members in Barbados and 30-plus credit unions to make the contribution of $12,500,” he said.

Back in July, the credit union sector also presented the Government’s vaccine fund with a much-needed cash injection to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for Barbadians.

“So, this is the second monetary contribution on behalf of the Credit Union sector to the COVID-19 fight, which is obviously extremely important at this time. We all need to put our hands to the plow and do what we can as institutions and individually, because we need to continue this fight. The pandemic is still raging, and we need to do what we can to provide resources to help in the fight against COVID-19.”

Caddle-Rowe thanked the BCCUL executives and assured that the funds will be put to good use.

“Donations from Corporate Barbados are always welcome at the isolation facilities, there is always something that we can put it to good use for. So, on behalf of the Administration Department, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Board, Dr. Corey Forde and all the ancillary and medical staff at the hospital, and throughout the isolation facilities – we want to say a great big thank you to the League for the very generous donation and it will certainly be put to good use for the general public,” she said.
