Barbadians taking advantage of back-to-school loan service

Barbadians have been taking advantage of the back-to-school loan service offered at the Six Roads/Emerald City branch of the Barbados Public Workers Co-operative Credit Union Limited (BPWCCL).

BPWCCL Branch Operations Officer (Acting), Tracia Sargeant told The Barbados Advocate that this particular service “has been going well.”

“Persons have been coming in and applying from the time we started around May and that will be extended up until school has started in September. As I said, it is not only for small kids but it is for adults as well who are furthering their education.”

She added, “In the initial stages it was moderate but we have seen the activity picked up in that area since the Common Entrance results are out and kids are out. Persons are ready to come and get some money to start their shopping for the back-to-school.”

Sargeant was speaking during Friday’s Member Appreciation Day activity at the branch. This event gave individuals a chance to have a massage, have their blood pressure and sugar checked and take a picture in the photo booth. Prizes were also given to clients after they conducted their transactions.

The Branch Operations Officer (Acting), who indicated that “overall business at the Credit Union is good,” explained that the Day was BPWCCL’s way of giving back.

“We just have these Appreciation Days across our four branches pretty much to just show [or] say to our members thankyou for their membership.

We are thanking them for continually doing business with us and it is just a small token of our appreciation to them.”(MG)
