Barbadians ring in 2018 in style

A new year has dawned with Barbadians choosing diverse activities to ring in 2018. As is tradition, many chose to attend some of the countless churches around the island to incorporate a spiritual element. Many flocked to areas synonymous with good vantage points to view the magnificent fireworks displays. Others who could afford the extravagant choice of some fine dining establishments selected that option. However those who were simply looking for an inexpensive party also had some alternatives.

The Hon. Michael Lashley, representative for St. Philip North hosted a party at Coles in St. Philip. With a delicious buffet provided, drinks flowing and a cast of popular DJs to entertain it was surreal that this was all available for free. Daddy Biggz did the countdown and he and King Yella kept the crowd entertained with a slew of different genres. They kept the crowd moving as the patrons eagerly anticipated DJ Indian and Chris Gayle who were also slated to perform. The only thing that could have made the evening more spectacular was the ability to see fireworks.

One of the other free options for those who were able to brave the gridlocked traffic was Reminisce. The show, held under the patronage of the Hon. Steve Blackett was sponsored by Ministry of Social Care and Constituency Empowerment, Barbados Tourism Product Authority, Williams Equipment and Burger King. The event which coordinated was by Randy Eastmond, of Quantum Productions was hosted on Bay Street opened with an Open Mic session which included performances from Zion Transporter, Vocal God, Capaccino Nico Starz, and Ras Shem. Rising star Amber Orano was also featured. Other performances also came from more seasoned performers like Sister Marshall, Richard Stoute, Biggie Irie, Peter Ram and Lil Rick.

Many party goers also made the trek to East Point Bar and Grill for First Light hosted by Limerz Cruise Events. Now in its third year the cooler party attracted a sold out crowd at the St Philip location. Those lucky patrons who were able to secure the much sought after tickets partied well into the morning to some of the biggest hits with the sporadic showers having little impact on their enjoyment.
