Barbadians must not turn a blind eye to wrong doing

Barbadians are being called upon not to turn a blind eye to any wrong doing they may observe, that is helping to fuel the local drug culture and other illicit activities.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde who is the Member of Parliament for St. Thomas made the call recently, as she made her contribution to debate on the Integrity in Public Life Bill, 2018 which took place in Parliament.

“I also want to refer to the drug culture, because there are many persons who get rich overnight as a result of their engagement. I don’t know who they are. I couldn’t care about knowing who they are, because if I know who they are, I am the kind of person who will do what I have to do as a decent citizen and therefore, I would also like to admonish them if they are hearing my voice, and they are hearing what’s happening here, change their lifestyles” Minister Forde remarked.

“There is no point in doing it. At the end of the day, who will be using the drugs? Whose lives will they be destroying? What will government have to do with the expenditure in the Ministry of Health and in the substance abuse

department and so on. We need to think ahead. Be more proactive before we get involved in the madness” she added.

“I am not saying which officers they might be or might not be, because I don’t know who is who, but I believe that it has to stop and this Integrity Legislation Bill has to do what it has to do. The blind eye has to stop. If it is at the Port, if there is a blind eye there or blind eyes there that are not observing what is going on, I would like for God to reveal to them to what is right. Stick to the correct and the proper. It is not to happen in Barbados. If it is at the

seaport, if it is dropping off somewhere from the sky, on the beach, I ask them please, make a change, because it is destroying the fabric of our society, that we wall want to see grow from strength to strength in a positive direction,” Forde stated. (RSM)
