Barbadians can look forward to CARIFESTA Television in August

The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) will be establishing a separate broadcasting entity called CARIFESTA Television to broadcast events from CARIFESTA XIII twenty-four hours a day throughout the festival, which will be staged in Barbados from August 7th to 27th.

General Manager of CBC, Doug Hoyte, made the announcement recently, as Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley signed a host broadcasters agreement with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and a Memorandum of Understanding with theCaribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) at his offices in Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael. The aim is to ensure that CARIFESTA will have a wide reach via live broadcasts, to viewers in Barbados, the rest of the region and the Diaspora.

“There are several firsts for CBC with this project. We are establishing a separate broadcasting entity called CARIFESTA Television, which will be broadcasting 24 hours a day from the 17th until the 27th and programming will be dedicated exclusively to CARIFESTA,” Hoyte revealed.

Via the project, CBC will also have the opportunity to utilise some of the latest technology, Hoyte also indicated, noting that CARIFESTA Television will be delivered in high definition transition, for the benefit of viewers.

“So we look forward to partnering with the Secretariat, the Ministry and the CBU, in spreading the gospel of Caribbean culture across the globe,” CBC’s general manager said in his brief address at the signing ceremony. (RSM)
