Students making their way into the Combermere School yesterday morning.

Back to business at Combermere

The school year resumed for students of the Combermere School at the same time as other children across the island. The students endured much time out of class with the advent of environmental issues last term. Since then, the school has been cleared for classes to be resumed and yesterday morning students were seen strolling onto the compound by the hundreds for the first day of the new term.

When The Barbados Advocate asked one student how she felt to be back at school, she reported that she was pleased to be back; but was concerned about the amount of work that she would now have to do to make up for lost time. Another student noted that she was getting a little bored at home and was glad to finally be back. Meanwhile, one simply hoped for an uninterrupted term.

Parents too shared in the glee to have children returned to school while dropping off their charges. One parent commented, “I am glad that they are back in school… they are teenagers and teenagers need to be in school without so much free time.”
While another jokingly stated that they were happy to get the children out of house.

When the media tried to receive a comment from the Principal of the school, Mr Vere Parris, he declined to comment by way of hand gestures from the confines of his office.

On the compound also was President of the Parent Teacher Association, Rolerick Sobers who also declined to give comment at the time but disclosed that he was simply observing the students heading to their classes and getting prepared for the new term.
