B’dos Port Inc. taking tourism to new level

Within the next year, the Barbados Port Inc. will embark on a few new projects geared towards improving the tourism product of Barbados.

This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Port Inc., David Jean-Marie, during an unveiling ceremony of the recently refurbished South Point Lighthouse.

“This year the Port has taken to reinvigorating its assets. We refurbished quite a few during the last financial year and we also undertook the refurbishment of East Point Lighthouse, with the help of Hinds Transport and we built a new bus shelter in the Port as well as refurbished this South Point Lighthouse,” he said.

“We are about to embark on a project to construct Bridge Six, to build a new container for its station and to build a new cruise facility.”

Jean-Marie expressed that he believes they would have done quite well this year in terms of refurbishing the existing assets and revealed that they have grand plans for the next year in order to take Barbados’ cruise tourism product to the next level as well as modernise the port.

The Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy believed that things at the Barbados Port Inc. were going in the right direction.

“Not only are we seeing investments in capital expenditure to improve the facilities, but we also spent more money in training and we have restructured and realigned the organisation so that it works more smoothly,” he said.

“We would have also looked at customer experience as well for those participating in cargo and of course, we are constantly dealing with the issues of cruises. So once again, I want to congratulate and salute you, persons at the Barbados Port Inc., for the work being done in general. Let us continue to build on our strength and create linkages for a prosperous future.”
