B’dians encouraged to vote

Barbados has received five nominations in USA Today’s annual travel expert poll, signalling that it has some of the best Caribbean tourism attractions and a high quality tourism product.

With a total of five nominations in four categories, Barbados has been recognised in the categories of Best Caribbean Attraction, Best Restaurant in the Caribbean, Best Caribbean Golf Course and Best Caribbean Dive Site.

According to Robert Chase, Director of Marketing at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Barbadians have the opportunity to show just how Barbados really does punch above its weight, and as such, they are being encouraged to galvanise their collective efforts, to lift Barbados to the number one standing in the USA online poll of Best Caribbean Tourism Attractions, by voting for the island in the USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards.

“USA Today, utilising a panel of travel experts, have nominated their top picks in each category and it is now our turn to pick a winner. Voting has already begun and continues daily up until January 30, 2017,” Chase said yesterday, during the USA Today’s Travel Expert Poll press conference, held at BTMI’s Head Office in the Warrens Office Complex in St. Michael.

“St. Nicholas Abbey is currently ranked one out of 20 in the Best Caribbean Attraction category, and George Washington House is ranked third. In the Best Restaurant in the Caribbean category, The Cliff Restaurant sits at number four out of 20 on the leader-board. Coming in at position number one out of 20 in the golf area, is the Green Monkey at Sandy Lane for the Best Caribbean Golf Course award; and in the final category, Best Caribbean Dive Site, Carlisle Bay ranks second,” Chase further noted.

“We are calling upon the citizens of Barbados to vote daily, to ensure Barbados cops all the categories that we have been nominated in. This is an excellent opportunity for the island to rally together and to continue to show the world what Barbados has to offer,” the BTMI’s Director of Marketing stressed.

The public is invited to vote daily for the island in the USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards. Each person is limited to one vote, per category, per day. The nominated categories can be found online at 10best.com/awards/travel/ and persons can vote here for the category of their choice. (RSM)
