AOPT: Let us regulate attire for PSV operators

The Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) is not satisfied with how a number of PSV operators are wearing their uniforms nor with the different colours and shades that seem to be in fashion at the moment.

To this end, Chairman of the AOPT, Roy Raphael, says the Association has put to the Ministry of Transport a recommendation that the Alliance Owners of Public Transport be the entity responsible for regulating the attire of the PSV operators, as they would have to go through their suggested manufacturer to acquire the relevant uniforms with the relevant logo attached, so as to have uniformity.

“One thing we ourselves as an Association will be monitoring, is the whole question of uniforms. We were in discussion with the Ministry of Transport only last week and we said that uniforms need to be regulated,” Raphael pointed out.

“It seems everybody wears different colour uniforms, different shades and certainly this is an issue for us across the board. So we are saying to the Minister, allow us to be distributors of the uniform. We will get a manufacturer and persons working on the PSVs will carry the logo of the Transport Authority. So you shouldn’t be going to any place and buying a uniform. There are two distributors we will be dealing with and if you are a legal PSV operator, then you are able to go and buy your shirt or your uniform from there” Raphael explained.

In the past, the Transport Authority has constantly been reminding minibus and route taxi operators that the specified uniforms must be worn whenever they are on duty. It has been noted that while some have complied with the request, others have continued to defy the requirement. However, a dress code remains in effect. (RSM)
