Adrian “Boo” Husbands remembered at funeral service

Several touching tributes were delivered on Monday during the funeral service of late Adrian “Boo” Husbands.

Among the tributes heard by the large gathering at the New Dimensions Ministries was that delivered by Opposition Leader, Mia Mottley.

Mottley described the late musician and tent manager as a philosopher, a friend and someone who strived to allow people to be the best they can be. She also said he “was the essence of what it meant to be a Bajan” and spoke about his love for St. Joseph, particularly the area of Chimbarazo.

“In all that I say to you, Boo was not partisan, Boo was bigger than any party because Boo was about Barbados. Boo was about St. Joseph. Boo was about Bajans and ultimately, Boo gave expression. When I heard Larry talking about wanting to give out water, I was there with Boo many a time and his concern was not about himself but about people who could not make a call to get help.”

Sharing about an upcoming community programme that they were going to work on, the Opposition Leader said that in the late Husbands this island “had the best director of culture that was never appointed by any government.”

She urged members of the congregation to allow his memory to live on through them.

“I trust and pray that our feelings, that our commitment towards Boo would live on beyond this moment in time.”

Meanwhile in his tribute, Kayode Husbands described his cousin as a simple man and an individual who “could make light of any situation no matter how difficult it was”.

He additionally said he was “a giant when it came to bringing people together” and stressed that for his late cousin developing strong relationships with others was important.

“From Boo’s perspective…, nothing ever mattered more than relationships. Boo’s life was about relationships and the one dream that he had for everyone here, especially if he touched your life or impacted you in any way… was that of unity; [and] relationships matter.”(MG)
