‘Voice of DLP will be heard’

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is well and intact.

This comment was made by member of the DLP, Donville Inniss, during a press conference that took place at the Party’s headquarters on Tuesday evening. He believes that notwithstanding their defeat at the polls on May 24, their presence and presentation yesterday evening ought to send a very clear signal that the DLP is alive and well.

“Even though we may not have a seat in parliament, the voice of the DLP will be heard. We are cognisant of the fact that there was a very low turnout at the poll, perhaps many of our supporters did not find the need to go out and vote, whatever the reason is, we have 63 years of history and positive contribution to the political, social and economic development of Barbados and we sitting here, the four of us representing the larger group, will not run away from that responsibility, not just to let the voice of the party be heard but also to ensure that we perform our duty which is to keep the BLP in check,” he said.

“So rest assured you will be hearing a lot more from the DLP, not just the four of us here but we’re certainly working assiduously as a team to ensure that we continue to be a formidable voice to help shape policies and programmes for this country, and that is why we felt duty bound to come here today to engage with the public via this medium to reflect on what has taken place in the budget and the past couple of weeks.”

Inniss pointed out that the DLP was currently being vilified by persons who did not want to hear what they had to say because they were “the worst Government ever”, however, he believed that the DLP did the best they could with what they had.

He is of the opinion that over the next couple of years, people are going to understand and appreciate what they did as a Government.

DLP here to stay
Fellow member David Estwick chimed in and noted that the party was currently being geared up and ready for their annual conference. He noted that from this event, Barbadians will understand that the DLP is going nowhere; rather, they are growing from strength to strength.
