‘No growth until Gov’t goes’

“For Barbados to grow, this Government must go.”

This was the declaration made by Opposition Leader Mia Mottley, as she delivered her Reply to the 2017 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals in the House of Assembly yesterday evening.

“I know that nothing good can come out of this Parliament and until this Parliament goes, nothing will change in Barbados,” Mottley remarked.

Stressing that government had introduced “the largest tax take ever” on the nation’s citizens, Mottley sent a strong message that what is being foisted upon the people of this country, “cannot be accommodated”.

She added, “What this country needs more than anything else is hope, because we know we can be the better people and we can do better and we can come back to the point where we can outperform where we were, because the real problem was that we had gotten into a culture of contentment.”

Mottley further maintained that, “We need to realise that there is always a good side to a crisis and we need to utilise that good side to this crisis and make this country a better country again. And I am saying tonight, that the people who I am bringing to this country, will not be perfect, but they are good solid Barbadians, prepared to work beyond the call of duty, to make this country a better place again.”

Lamenting the fact that she had to use the opportunity given to her to make her Reply, to speak to the people of Barbados while outlining a number of measures she would put in place to better Barbados, if she became Prime Minister.

Maintaining her stance that for things to get better, the present government must go, Mottley told the House, the biggest economic problem today, has to do with the fact that the present government remains in charge of the country.

“Barbadians understand the mess that we are in. Barbadians know however that we can suck it in and suck it up and over the next three years, we may not run like Usain Bolt, but we will walk like men and women with dignity again and we will set new targets for this country… this BLP will make it happen,” Mottley declared.
