‘Let’s make Barbados a better place’

AS the country moves towards 50 years of Independence, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart posed three questions that must be asked going forward.

“What are those features of Barbadian life that we have lost over the years that we need to try and reclaim? I have asked also, what are those features of Barbadian life that we have not lost over the last 50 years that we need at all costs to retain? And the third question I have asked is, what are those features of Barbadian life that we have not lost, but we need to lose as soon as possible, because those features are not doing us any good and are not enhancing our image as a nation,” he said.

He reiterated the importance of Barbadians asking these questions as this would help to determine what priorities were set going into the next 50 years and what society was being created for those coming after.

Addressing the hundreds gathered at Ilaro Court for his Crop Over reception on Thursday night, Stuart also insisted that such questions must be asked on an individual basis in order to become productive citizens.

“Let us all resolve collaboratively to make Barbados a much better place than it has been over the last 50 years, great a place it has been though over the last 50 years,” he stated.

The PM also thanked all those in the diaspora attending the Network Consultation’s Fourth Biennial Diaspora Conference, saying it was how they carried themselves overseas that ensured the image of Barbados remained high in international quarters.

“The image of Barbados is tied up in how Barbadians living abroad conduct themselves, and how they comport themselves, and I want to say thanks to all of you for being the great ambassadors you have been,” Stuart remarked. (JMB)
