‘Kadooment Out of Season Jam’ scheduled for May Day

Barbadians now have an alternate way to spend May 1, owing to the recent launch of the “Kadooment Out of Season Jam”.

Speaking about this street parade, Creative Director with DM Celebrations Lifestyle & Entertainment Inc, Matthew Babb, explained that the “Kadooment Day in May” is a warm-up for the upcoming Grand Kadooment Day and 2017 Crop Over season. He additionally said it will be used as a launch for Day Two, which similarly to last year is slated for the day after Grand Kadooment Day.

Babb further stated that individuals participating in the jump will be allowed to wear “an old costume or Monday wear or whatever you feel to jump in.” He also stated that through the Jam, revellers will get sneak preview of some of the 2017 Crop Over costumes which have already been launched.

“[It is] a concept which has been compared to the Congaline Festival by almost everyone to whom it has been presented. The aim is to grow this jump and this product into a flagship local event which draws not only tourists to the island but international reporters whose remarks will market Barbados as an entire product. Monday, May 1, we take to the streets to get ourselves prepared for the Crop Over season, Grand Kadooment Day and for Day Two,” Babb added while addressing Monday’s press launch at The Cove Barbados.

Also speaking during this launch, Managing Director of DM Celebrations Lifestyle & Entertainment Inc., Ryan Moseley said the location for the Kadooment Out of Season Jam will be disclosed at a later date. However, he shared that event will occur from 2 pm until 8 pm on May Day. He said he is hopeful to have 1 000 persons on the road for the street party.

Moseley also shared his vision for the May 1 Jam. “The vision for this event is that it will grow to be exactly like Congaline where there are different bands on the road and positioning this event right after the Reggae Festival is very important to attracting tourists to island….This is another opportunity to grow this weekend, where we have Heroes Day and May Day and the Reggae Festival… into another major revenue earner for Barbados.” (MG)
