‘All Aboard’

“The theme for the 79th BLP Conference is ‘All Aboard’ because this is our last conference before general elections and the theme is about all-inclusiveness, rallying all Barbadians to come together for the sake of our country.”

This was the word coming from, Senator, Dr. Jerome Walcott,General Secretary of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) at the launch of 79th annual conference yesterday at the BLP headquarters.

According to him, “We recognize that are beloved country is currently going through some perilous economic times in spite of nine long arduous years of increasing taxation, failed fiscal policies, rising cost of living and personal sacrifice. We see the markedly declining enrollment of Barbadian students at UWI as a result of the imposition of fees by this government, the deplorable state of our roads, public transportation, embarrassing and reoccurring problems of garbage collection and sewage management. Also, the rise of unemployment, worrying crime situation etc.”

“We know Barbadians are not accustomed [to] the gross mismanagement of our country which we have endured since 2008, thus we are asking Barbadians to get on board and join the BLP on our journey to rescue, rebuild and restore Barbados to what it was. We are confident that the BLP led by Mia Mottley and our team can bring Barbados back to being the number one small developing state in the world, that of which we were once very proud. Despite what may be said by our detractors, we are united, focused and indeed ready for the difficult task of rebuilding our country, as testament to this there will be no election for executive positions at this year’s conference as the current members of our executive have been returned unopposed for the year 2017/2018 .”

He added, “The conference will take place at Queens Park form the 27th -29th October, we start with a launch of a new BLP Junior league on Friday night. The award ceremony will be held on Saturday and our business session will take place in the morning with a presentation of our candidates and the feature address of our political leader, the conference will culminate on Sunday evening.”

“In this spirit we are inviting all Barbadians to join us on Saturday, 28th October as we open our conference to the public for the presentation of our candidates and the address of our leader the Honorable Mia Mottley …” (NB)
