Kudos to the Canadian Women’s Club of Barbados

The Canadian Women’s Club of Barbados must be commended for its effort to financially assist local charities that cater to women, children and the elderly.

This week, the Canadian Women’s Club (CWC) disbursed funds totalling Bds$101 300 to 17 charitable organisations on the island. Representatives of the charities could not help but express profound gratitude to the members of the Club, as they received the much needed funds during the CWC’s Annual Disbursement Meeting, held at the Canadian High Commission in Bishop’s Court Hill, St. Michael.

The 2017 beneficiaries are: the Barbados Council for the Disabled, the Barbados Diabetes Foundation, the Burnscar Garment and Orthotic Fund for Children, the Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Club Shelter for Abused Women, Camp Aquarius, Cancer Support Services, the Caribbean Dyslexia Association, the Diabetes Association of Barbados, the Family Welfare Society, Friends of the Geriatric Hospital, the HIV/AIDS Food Bank, the Nature Fun Ranch, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Paediatric Department, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Paediatric Playroom, the Learning Centre, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the St. Vincent de Paul-Central Council.

Each year, the Canadian Women’s Club of Barbados holds a presentation to disburse the funds to the charities, which work directly with children, the elderly and women. The funds disbursed this year were raised via a fund-raising golf tournament held at Royal Westmoreland.

According to the CWC, it has a dedicated team of volunteers on the Community Services Committee that oversees all charitable requests, as well as the due diligence process, to determine the level of need, in supplying both financial and non-financial aid from the Club. The Club has also noted that one hundred per cent of all funds raised go into the hands of the charities the Club supports. The Club has also assisted persons in need directly as well.

In these hard economic times, it is really a great effort on the part of the Canadian Women’s Club, its partners and sponsors, to keep up these annual disbursements, to aid charities that in turn help the most vulnerable. The numerous persons who will be touched by such a gesture include cancer patients, at-risk youth, the disabled, persons living with HIV and AIDS, diabetics, burn victims, children at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, abused women, elderly patients, children who have Dyslexia and families who need assistance with food and nutrition. So you can see the full gamut of the reach of the CWC. So kudos to the Canadian Women’s Club. We need more organisations like this one, in Barbados.
