Keep a positive mindset

Research in the field of psychology suggests that those who are positive thinkers, are usually healthier and happier in this life. When they do fall ill or face personal challenges, they can bounce back quicker, than those who only focus on the negatives.

When we speak of someone who is “positive” in their outlook and their mindset, we mean that the person in question is usually optimistic, sure and certain, rather than filled with doubt and fears. Such a person focuses on good things, rather than solely the bad. A positive person would perhaps describe a glass as being half full, rather than half empty. This is not to say that those who are positive in their outlook overlook problems as they arise, but rather, such persons are able to find a silver lining when things look bleak and thus maintain a good state of mental health.

It is at times hard to find such positive people in this world, filled with doom and gloom. Very often, we meet individuals who do not care to hear about the success of others, who only care about what is happening in their own circle and who often are quick to pull others down. At times, you have to work hard to remain positive, after interacting with those who have a negative mindset and it can be quite draining. These “negative people” you should shun like the plague. Such persons never have an encouraging word to share, are often busybodies in their own right and do not have a positive bone in their body. Oftentimes, when confronted with such individuals, you have to exude a certain measure of confidence, look them in the eye and get them to see somehow, if possible, that their minds should be set on the positive, rather than on things that are negative.

I often find though, that at times, people who lean constantly towards the negative side of life, are just in their world, dealing with their own problems and they at times need someone to be kind to them. I have found as well that old habits die hard and there are some folks who need to be presented with another view, often a positive one, in order to reshape their thoughts towards something good.

Now getting back to the research, the physical and mental benefits of positive thinking have been demonstrated by multiple scientific studies. Positive thinking can give you more confidence, improve your mood, and even reduce the likelihood of developing conditions such as hypertension, depression and other stress-related disorders. When you surround yourself with positive people, you’ll hear positive outlooks and receive positive affirmations. The positives should always outweigh the negatives, rather than vice versa.

Finding positive people to fill up your life can be difficult, but you need to eliminate the negativity in your life, before it consumes you. Do what you can to be a positive person and you will find that as you pass that positivity on to others, you may not change the world, but you will certainly have a meaningful impact on those in your circle and those you meet, who are looking for someone to shape their lives in a positive way.
