FROM THE BOUNDARY: Happy new moment – A reverie

New Year again. New resolutions, hopes, dreams – and tribulations. It’s odd really. We say ’New Year’ as if it’s a concrete reality, as with new months, weeks, days, minutes – but all MANufactured. We created it. In reality, we experience just another ‘darkness’, another ‘light’, and each onsetting, as the earth does its thing with the sun. I don’t know about you, but since Covid Wimp began his antics I’ve increasingly lost my sense of time.

One day, one week, merges with another and dates go AWOL. One moment it’s Monday, then it’s Friday. Or is it? Once it was March. In a blink it was May, then September, then now. It’s been living moment by moment, as the creatures live, the birds of the air. And the Divine? Time ceases to matter as it did, and our lives take on a reflection of the eternal.

The Divine ‘exists’ beyond time. One day is as a thousand years; a thousand years is but a day (2 Pet 3:8). The very idea of God creating the universe in six days, night shifts included, and then resting on the seventh is absurd. It’s a human construct, a story, pure composition many millions of years post-creation. Yet it gave us the Sabbath, church-going, resting not working, and all sorts of petty rules and conventions about ‘observance’, and all in the name of ‘HIMself’ instead of ‘ourselves’.

Yet change comes. The old’s been given notice. Covid Wimp acts pretty cocky now. But there are vaccines, somewhere. For me, the Intimate Conviction 2 Conference has come and gone. That only seems a moment ago. My ‘The Love Within’ was published. Oh yes, and I met my new friend, Mr Murphy, a working man who loves animals and spends many hours trying to save the chicks of yard fowl from being killed on the road. Bless him, and bless little Penny he gave me. Christmas, after years, was spent here – nice.

With the light, there are ever colours of new beginnings around us, divine gifts of hope in myself, you and the world. The stillness of night rebuilds body’s strength and there’s a begetting – of peace for the earth, for you and me; and with it gratitude and love. The divine Presence touches us with a new consciousness of Life within all life. Sure, there may be disappointments and tears too. With the darkness, Life signals from distant stars, the night songs of winged things, the crowing of lone roosters in tree tops. Somewhere Love is born, and abandonment. Somewhere Right’s been done, and injustice. Don’t worry. We’ll cross the bridge together. Rest and sleep, until the light. Self dreams of oneness with all things – the living and dying, creation, divine Love, the Heart at the heart of every moment. And all moments shared with every living face, out of time. They’re the songs of minstrels, the flight of wild geese, the grace and power of flamenco dancers. There’s no place for penal codes, orders and threats, dogmas and decrees from somewhere up there, the man-made masquerading as the Divine.

Change yes, new heavens, new earths, streams in the desert, paths through the wilderness. The Divine never sleeps, and the former things are passing or have gone. The Eternal breathes through you and me, and gives us rebirth in the cradle of love, a new spirit, a heart of flesh. We know that in the world those hearts of stone may yet be found – within the prison walls of ancient texts peddling JUDGEMENT, blind and deaf to mercy. Imagine: you and I new creations in the breathing of a babe whose light was for all time, whose love was for all men. Circumcision, uncircumcision, mean nothing. Salvation’s an inch or so of skin? Absurd; like midget gladiators spoiling for a fight about whose Dad’s bigger, yours or mine. No. Follow the odour of love to the centre of yourself and listen. Hear the whisper, ‘You are my beloved and I am yours’.

Happy New Moment everyone!

Go safely, then – until the next time.

Every moment, from the boundary: “We’re all golden sunflowers inside” (Allen Ginsberg).
